I just got into Jabber and I'm looking to set one up for an NGO I'm a part of.

Are there any obvious problems that I might like to avoid (or don't really care about) with any of them?

Wildfire, Tigase, jabberd14, jabberd2, and ejabberd seem to be the only viable projects anymore.

We would probably want multi-user chat, and I think our org is small enough to justify having everyone on everyone's roster, if that might narrow it down.

I'll look into them all more tomorrow.

Hi,

well I see 2 options.
1. You use Openfire. It is easy to set up, it has a nice Webinterface to manage all your settings, like shared rosters etc., and runs quite stable.
2. ejabberd. ejabberd is a great scalable server, but is not that easy to manage as Openfire. However, it gives you many possibilities and performs very well in larger environements.

Hm, now I see what I should work on in Tigase project... ;)

Well, I am Tigase server developer so my opinion is quite biased but I think it is also worth checking. Especially if you would like to closed integrate the IM service with your system.

How small is your NGO? What operating systems are you most familiar with? Do you have people in your organization with sysadmin experience, or would you prefer something that's easier to set up and administer (e.g., via web interface)? These are some of the questions you might ask.
