I have a domain with my personal email. I would like to know if there is a way to use this email on a jabber server. I moved to Google Apps but my webhost does not support SRV DNS to use Google's servers.
So I created an AIM screename with the option to use my email address as my ID but the interoperability with GTalk is restricted to the Gmail interface...
So are there any services that would sort of link my email to an existing jabber server; For example me@domain.com would be tied to me@jabber.org

any idea of how i can achieve that?

Thanks

Hello,

I am not sure I understand everything. Do you have a Jabber server hosted on your personnal domain? If so, you can simply create a Jabber login which is the same as your email login. This is what I do. This is totally separated from your email server but you can set the same address. I am pretty sure also it may be possible to sync all the email and jabber account on your server, probably with technologies like LDAP (see for instance http://www.process-one.net/docs/ejabberd/guide_en.html#htoc27 for ejabberd).

Another possibility is using a service which can provide you a Jabber server while still using your own domain name. Nevertheless, the only similar service I know is APINC, and it is french speaking: http://jabber.apinc.org/

Also you seem to consider redirecting a Jabber address to another. I don't know if this is possible but there are so many XEP, maybe someone here knows some kind of existing specification about Jabber alias/redirection? Or maybe simply you could use a transport Jabber to Jabber, but the only server where I ever found such feature, it was really not working well (they all prefer have a transport for MSN or AIM probably, sniff).

And finally, what compatibility with AIM Gtalk are you speaking about? I think I already heard once about such thing, but wasn't it a long time ago beta very limited? Or is there now a real link between the 2 networks where you can speak to an AIM user with a Gmail account (and no AIM account at all!)? This is interesting info.

Hi,

without SRV records, it is difficult to do something like this. We (Flosoft.biz (http://www.flosoft.biz)) offer XMPP Domains, which have been built for this purpose. You would simply need to point your NS configuration to our DNS servers, and we do the rest :)

Feel free to PM me for more info :)

There is no central registration page like icq.com, AIM.com,...
there is somewhere an option in your client to register a new account on the selected login server. You enter username + password and push the "register" button. There is no need to register on a website.

If you have problems to find this function, please tell us your client software.
PSI, Exodus, GTalk, Pandion, Miranda, Trillian, ... , whatever
