Following up on a discussion from the jdev (AT) jabber (DOT) org list, I propose
the following additions to the "gateway" category in the Service
Discovery Identities registry [1]...
<type>
<name>lcs</name>
<desc>Gateway to Microsoft Live Communications Server</desc>
<doc>N/A</doc>
</type>
<type>
<name>ocs</name>
<desc>Gateway to Microsoft Office Communications Server</desc>
<doc>N/A</doc>
</type>
<type>
<name>sametime</name>
<desc>Gateway to IBM Lotus Sametime</desc>
<doc>N/A</doc>
</type>
<type>
<name>simple</name>
<desc>Gateway to SIP for Instant Messaging and Presence Leveraging
Extensions (SIMPLE)</desc>
<doc>N/A</doc>
</type>
<type>
<name>xmpp</name>
<desc>Gateway to another XMPP service (NOT via native
server-to-server communication)</desc>
<doc>N/A</doc>
</type>

How about
<type>
<name>skype</name>
<desc>Gateway to Skype</desc>
<doc>N/A</doc>
</type>
? Not that it is likely to appear any time soon, but I'm still dreaming :)

AFAIK such thing is not technically possible at the moment. Wouldn't be
better to add it when it is needed or at last possible?
With regards

Well, there is a gateway between Skype and MySpaceIM so it must be
possible, but perhaps only if you pay lots of money. :)
That said, I keep poking my Skype contacts about XMPP-based federation
between Skype and the Jabber network. But don't hold your breath...
