LAN messaging ap for final yr project

Hi everyone, im new to jabber and im working on my cs final year project- LAN instant messaging ap. im interested in using java. pls i need help badly. thanks

Eh? A LAN messaging system? Like, do you need to be able to support multiple chat sessions at once, or a simple peer to peer messaging program? I'm almost certain your teacher wouldn't require you to setup a server in order to do this, so essentially you'll be looking to connect to individual users. You could use the XMPProtocol to encode the messages, but it's probably much easier for you to simply send the messages as plain strings over a direct connection to satisfy the demands of your teacher.

Give a bit more of your requirements, and we could probably have a better sense of how to help you.

Hi Jinno, what i have in mind is an application with both server and client sides. I intend to support multiple clients and possibly conference and file transfer capabilities.. im guessing this wud be difficult. pls i need 2 know what it entails in detail.. so i can decide if i can handle it. if its too much ill go for something else. thanks
